Since 2010, Jonathan has served as a trial attorney, fiercely defending the rights of individuals entangled in the criminal justice system. He has represented both victims and the accused in cases ranging from minor traffic violations to first-degree murder. With years of courtroom experience, Jonathan has spent countless hours in the halls of the Durham County Courthouse, handling each case with courage, skill, and unwavering integrity.

Prior to establishing his own law firm, Jonathan interned with the Wake County Public Defender’s Office and later worked for a criminal defense firm in Downtown Durham. In addition to practicing criminal law in local courts, Jonathan serves as a guardian ad litem where he protects the interests of minors and incompetent/incapacitated adults unable to make decisions in their own interest.

Jonathan’s commitment to the Durham community is not only demonstrated by his work as an attorney, but also through his volunteerism and his involvement with the community. Currently, he serves as the Treasurer of the Durham County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council. He is a past Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Durham County Teen Court and Restitution Program—an organization with a mission to hold juvenile offenders accountable for their criminal and delinquent behavior while providing them with constructive and rehabilitative opportunities, which includes community service and victim restitution. Additionally, Jonathan is a fierce advocate for people with intellectual disabilities. Since 2008, he has been a dedicated volunteer and coach with Special Olympics North Carolina. In June 2022, he coached Team North Carolina’s Unified Basketball team at the United States Games in Orlando, where they brought home a Gold medal.

Jonathan earned his B.S. in Political Science from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and his law degree from North Carolina Central University. He is a proud resident of Southwest Durham, where he resides with his wife Danielle (a native of Durham and proud Hillside High School graduate), his daughter (Drew Marie), and his son (Jonathan III).
